SEMI-FINALIST OF THE 2020 LVMH PRIZE
ALLED-MARTINEZby Archie M. Alled-Martinez
Barcelona born and bred, Archie M. Alled-Martinez moved to London aged 19.
Educated at Central Saint Martins from 2011, he graduated from the MA Fashion Knitwear program in 2018, was the recipient of the L’Oréal Professionnel scholarship 2018.
He moved to Paris in August 2018 after winning the LVMH Graduate prize in 2018, worked at Givenchy until June 2019, followed by the launch of his first solo collection SS20, during Paris men’s Fashion Week.
Alled-Martinez is a knitwear label that reflects who Archie is as a designer. Combining knitwear, which is his technical field of expertise, and the references that shape his identity as a designer. Creating a very esoteric product, appealing to an audience that understands both the technical aspect and the visual and cultural references, but at the same time, appealing to an audience that may not fully appreciate the previously mentioned but are drawn to the beauty and the simplicity of the cut.
Creating an entirely knitted collection that intends to challenge the audience’s pre conceived idea on what the limits of knitwear design can be and reinterpreting traditional tailoring by simplifying it to its limit and dedicating all the labour to specially engineered knits.
These highly-attractive “objects of desire” might seem instantly mundane but in in fact tap into a perverse dedication to new knitting techniques and modern tailoring.
