SEMI-FINALIST OF THE 2020 LVMH PRIZE
PIERO D'ANGELOby PIERO D'ANGELO
Piero D’Angelo is a Fashion and Textile Designer based in London exploring how biotechnology could influence fashion in the future.
He studied Textile Design at Central Saint Martins and Fashion Womenswear at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
His work is a new definition of Couture, where users can grow their own outfit and wear living organisms, an innovative perspective on design combining science, technology and biodesign. His material exploration led him to experiment with living systems, 3D printing and rapid prototyping as well as speculative bio-mimicry.
Through his brand he envisions a future in which biotechnology could play a primary role in fashion, in which garments are not created to be just aesthetic outputs but also functional products meant to help fight environmental issues or even improve people’s health. He would like to provide a different approach to fashion. A fashion that would make us more aware of nature, in which garments are grown rather than made and crafted rather than mass produced.
